It’s no surprise that this peony-pink corner is in the home of fashion designer Tracy Reese, who is known for her fearless use of color. The so-called “kitty cat room” is a narrow loft space tucked above the stairs. Simple white curtains offer the sleeper a hint of privacy, and built-in storage nooks below hold textiles and some of Reese’s magazine archives.

Designer Amy Sklar decided to make the bed the focal point of a small room. With no room for a traditional dresser, Sklar built drawers into the bed platform and stairs and designed a bedside table with drawers. To give the nook a tailored look, Sklar had the curtain fabric paper-backed so it could be used as wallpaper inside the nook. The upholstered pelmet conceals the track for the curtains.
